Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminalistics expert, author, editor, publisher, and researcher. He grew up in Thuringia and now lives alternately in Germany, Barcelona (Spain), and the Isle of Skye (Scotland) with his wife Dr. Maya Grünschloß and their two children, Ian and Enlil.
As a native “Römer” and grandson of the Central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied provincial Roman archaeology, psychology, comparative literature, and German studies at the Universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg, and Hagen. In addition to editing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstone’s Mahnung, he published in 2012 the scholarly volume Of Ovid, Grass and Tintagel Castle – Scientific and Essayistic Excursions into European Literature.
Furthermore, Patrick Kurtz has conducted studies of varying intensity on topics such as prehistory; religion and mythology; the origin, development, and nature of the universe, life (with a focus on biochemistry, particularly the DNA molecule), and consciousness; philosophy; police violence; climate change; and democracy, demagoguery, and disinformation in the 21st century. He consistently shows interest in both academic and alternative approaches and looks beyond the Western perspective. His other interests and passions include music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi Yoga, scuba diving (PADI-certified), and various forms of physical exercise.
Out of interest and a natural aptitude for combination, deduction, and analysis, Patrick Kurtz completed training as a private investigator in 2012/13 and has worked professionally as an IHK-certified detective since graduation. His investigative and academic focus is on criminalistics using insights from human ethology.
His further qualifications in investigation and security include the IHK specialist exam in accordance with § 34a GewO, the commercial firearms proficiency exam in accordance with § 7 WaffG, certification in lifesaving first aid and defibrillator use, VDS intervention training, and even certification as an elevator operator according to TRBS 3121.
